4.13.2009 AS&E achieves goal of paperless manufacturing on parcels line

Knoxville, TN – Barry Lucas, President and CEO of FFD, announced today that American Science & Engineering (www.as-e.com, NASDAQ: ASEI) has completed the implementation and rollout of FFD’s Sequence Enterprise Software for their Mail, Parcel and Baggage Inspection product line.  Sequence was chosen based on the capabilities of the WinSequence authoring interface for rapid authoring and maintenance and the WebSequence deployment interface for on-demand paperless deployment of highly-configured work instructions integrated with AS&E’s Oracle ERP system.

Doug Capri, AS&E’s Manager of Manufacturing Engineering, said “I am very pleased with Sequence’s ability to be integrated with our Oracle ERP system. This has dramatically improved our capability to incorporate process and quality improvements into our production documentation.”  According to FFD’s Ryan O’Hagan, the Sr. Applications Engineer working on the project, AS&E went into the implementation with three goals:

  1.        Complete documentation and paperless deployment of visual procedures configured for each unit;
  2.        Integration of the visual procedures with Oracle to automate the daily audit process for reconciling BoM changes; and
  3.        Electronic capture of information from the shop floor for maintaining the production record book for each unit.

All of these goals have been realized for the Parcel’s line.  O’Hagan describes AS&E as the ‘ideal Sequence customer.’  According to Capri, “AS&E plans to introduce Sequence on two additional production lines over the next year.”

FFD, Inc. specializes in software that addresses the key challenges manufacturing companies face in authoring work instructions, managing and revising that information, and disseminating the correct versions of the information to the manufacturing floor.  Sequence Enterprise software is a collaborative, multi-user work-instruction solution that offers full business integration with a company’s ERP / PLM solution and deployment of work instructions on paper or in a real-time, interactive, paperless model with integration to work orders and other shop floor systems.  Sequence is used by Military, Aerospace, and other highly regulated or precision product manufacturers who require very specific Work Instruction that guide operators in a simple fashion through their daily tasks.  For further information, contact FFD at (865) 927-3000 or visit www.sequencesoftware.com .
